Important Notice to All Residents Concerning Provincial Health Care Coverage On April 1, 1969 the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador introduced a medical care insurance program known as MCP. Through MCP, all eligible residents of the province are provided with comprehensive coverage for medically required health care services. Each resident is assigned a personal identity number which is provided to them in the form of a MCP card. Since 1969 no major changes have been made to MCP’s registration process. It has now been determined that in order to maintain the integrity of the program, MCP must perform a re-registration of all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. To accommodate this re-registration process a new MCP card has been designed which will contain additional security features to ensure that only the person to whom the card is issued will be able to use it. In addition to your name and MCP number, the new card will contain your date of birth and gender, and will have an effective date and an expiry date. This means that all cardholders will be responsible for the renewal of their MCP coverage in accordance with the expiry date on their card. Enclosed is a MCP Re-Registration form for you to complete and return to us as soon as possible. A postage-paid return mail envelope is provided for your convenience. It is important that all persons living in your household are identified on the re-registration form to ensure continuity of their MCP coverage. Please note that your doctor’s office will not accept old MCP cards after April 1, 2007, meaning that your current MCP card will not be valid after that date. With your cooperation the MCP Re-Registration Project will be a smooth process, ensuring that an effective and efficient medical care plan is maintained for all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.
