A child care centre is a place where care is provided for up to 60 children on either a part-time or full-time basis. Child care centres must be licensed before they can open.

The required level of certification and amount of experience vary according to the level of responsibility each staff member has.

The number of staff required varies depending on the number and ages of the children in the centre. The younger the children, the more staff are required. There are provincial regulations in place that must be followed regarding adult:child ratio.
