Jerome Kennedy is the oldest of nine children of Patrick and
Flora Kennedy of Carbonear. He graduated from Memorial
University of Newfoundland in 1981 with a B.A.(Hons.), followed
by graduation from the University of New Brunswick Law School in
1984 with an LL.B. He was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in
1985.
Mr. Kennedy was a criminal lawyer in St. John’s for 20 years
and was counsel at the Lamer Inquiry into wrongful convictions
in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Mr. Kennedy was elected as an MHA for the District of
Carbonear-Harbour Grace in October 2007 and was appointed
Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He became Minister of
Finance and the President of Treasury Board on October 31, 2008.
On October 7, 2009 he was appointed Minister of Health and
Community Services.
Mr. Kennedy lives in St. John's with his wife Rachel and
their two children, Julia and Michael.
