Youth Access to Tobacco

Environmental Health Officers with the Government Service Centre, Department of Government Services, enforce the tobacco access provisions of the provincial Tobacco Control Act and the Federal Tobacco Act. They carry out activities under these Acts to ensure tobacco retailers are not providing tobacco to persons under the age of 19.

This enforcement is one piece of the comprehensive Provincial Tobacco Reduction Strategy, and supports the goal of preventing young people, ages 10-24, from starting to use tobacco.

The Department has designated two signs for posting in all tobacco retail locations. The signs encourage everyone to let young people stay smoke-free by not giving or selling them tobacco. Copies of the signs can be downloaded below:
