Public Consultation on the Display and Promotion of Tobacco Products |
The Provincial Government is seeking your input on
whether it should make amendments to the Tobacco Control
Act. The proposed amendments may include:
The main goal of the proposed amendments is to prevent young people from starting to smoke. The presence of tobacco displays at retail (also known as power walls) sends the message that tobacco is a normal everyday product which conflicts with the fact that tobacco is a harmful product. All other provinces/territories in Canada have enacted power wall bans. Our province will learn from their experience and introduce a similar ban as part of our comprehensive tobacco control strategy. As part of our consultation process, the public is asked to complete the online survey about the proposed amendments on or before November 24, 2008. Your comments and recommendations are important and will help determine how we move forward with this initiative. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey
and for providing your views on this very important
public health issue. Sincerely Ross Wiseman |
