Provincial Wait Time Benchmark Update

Provincial wait time information from April to September of 2012-2013 shows that benchmark performance in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be strong. On average 86 per cent of patients accessed care within the recommended time frames, which is near the national target of 90 per cent.

Provincial data results for these first two quarters combined show that:

  • Almost all (98%) of newly diagnosed cancer patients commenced radiation treatment within the 28 day benchmark;
  • All or 100% of cardiac bypass surgeries were performed within 120 days, which is 62 days sooner than the 182 day benchmark;
  • Eight out of 10 (82%) cataract cases on the first eye were performed within 112 days, which is an 11% increase from the same quarters last year;
  • Eight out of 10 (83%) hip replacements were completed within the recommended benchmark of 182 days;
  • Eight out of 10 (81%) knee replacements were completed within the recommended benchmark of 182 days, a marked improvement from 62 per cent in the same quarters last year; and,
  • Nearly nine out of 10 (88%) patients underwent hip fracture surgery within the benchmark of 48 hours.
