Provincial Wait Time Benchmark Update

Provincial wait time information from April to September of 2013-2014 shows that benchmark performance in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be strong. On average 94 per cent of patients accessed care within the recommended time frames, which is above the national target of 90 per cent.

Provincial data results for these first two quarters combined show that:

  • Almost all (97%) of newly diagnosed cancer patients commenced radiation treatment within the 28 day benchmark;
  • All or 100% of cardiac bypass surgeries were performed within 98 days, which is much sooner than the 182 day benchmark;
  • More than nine out of 10 (95%) cataract cases on the first eye were performed within 112 days, which is a 13% increase from the same quarters last year;
  • Nine out of 10 (92%) hip replacements were completed within the recommended benchmark of 182 days; which is nearly a 10% increase from the same quarters last year;
  • Nine out of 10 (93%) knee replacements were completed within the recommended benchmark of 182 days, which is a 12% increase from the same quarters last year; and,
  • Eight out of 10 (85%) patients underwent hip fracture surgery within the benchmark of 48 hours.
